This piece was written specifically for a practice setting and was performed five days in a row at the Klangraum ‘day by day’ festival in Düsseldorf. The ensemble in this piece is composed of audience members, and the soloists do not make any sounds. The soloists are asked to nod twice during the piece, one nod physical, another imaginary. The ensemble/audience is invited to sound when the imaginary nod happens. At first, this instruction seems impossible to follow, but after playing the piece several times it develops a practice of intensely attentive listening and reflection, in which the ‘real’ and ‘imaginary’ times become intertwined.
